Remembrance is not only reminiscence
Dr. Ramchandra Guha, while delivering Sandipta Chatterjee memorial address last year, told us a story. The West Indian all-rounder Collie Smith died in a car accident while Gary Sobers was at the wheel of the car. Sobers was traumatised. But later, he resumed playing, scored a double ton against England. Sobers later said that he realised from then on that he would have to do the job of both Collie and Sobers. From then on he carried a bit of Collie within himself. Guha asked us to carry a bit of Sandipta within us.
Sandipta loved to communicate with people, to interact with new ideas. An avid participant in social media, she could discuss in length about media and ethics.
So here we are.
Here we will toy with new ideas, break frontiers, and explore new horizons. We hope to have posts on media, politics, society, on people and countries, not restricted to any copybook definitions. We will exchange thoughts to understand people better, to get new perspectives on whatever is happening around us. With words, pictures, videos, emotions. We will argue, debate, will make some people angry. The veterans will share their experiences, which cub journalists can enjoy and learn from. And the young turks will challenge the old. That’s what we aspire for, we dream of.
Primarily our blogs will be in Bengali and English.
So read us, hate us, love us and let us know.
We are newsly yours.
